"Sleep when the baby sleeps." - unsolicited advice from anyone who knows you have a newborn.
Sleep: Newborn sleep is irregular, especially during that first month. Babies are adjusting to a new schedule, and have their days mixed up. Even up until age 1 year, 4-5 hours is considered sleeping through the night. What does this mean for parents, especially mothers? Broken sleep is to be expected, but makes the rest of your day really tough. Here are some realistic tips for managing sleep in the early days (and months... and years).
Just lie down or put your feet up when baby is sleeping
Keep the lights dim and noise minimal
Allow yourself to be as comfortable as possible, especially the first few weeks
Check in with your doctor or therapist if you are not sleeping
